Police Charge Man after his Mother’s Dismembered Body is Discovered Inside Trash Bag

Police have charged a man with second-degree murder after his mother’s body was found dismembered inside a trash bag, said authorities.

According to Canadian police, at about 1:30 p.m. on March 28, officers responded to a call after a bystander discovered human remains in a trash bag on the sidewalk of Eastern Avenue and Berkshire Avenue in Toronto.

The woman was identified as Tien Ly, 46, the Toronto Police Service (TPS) said in a Facebook post. The statement added that the woman showed “trauma to the body, including some dismemberment.”

Concerned about his well-being, the investigators have asked the public to come forward with any information about the whereabouts of Ly’s son Dallas, 20. In an April 3 update, officers believed Dallas had been responsible for his mother’s death, the Toronto Police Service (TPS) said.

Dallas was charged with one count of second-degree murder for the death of his mother. At the Old City Hall on Sunday, he made a virtual appearance in court.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-7400, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222 TIPS (8477). Also, people can inform the police at www.222tips.com.

85 homicides occurred in Toronto in 2021, according to TPS. This was a sizeable increase from the 71 homicides that occurred in 2020. Police said 45 of the 85 homicides were shooting offenses, while 16 were stabbing victims.
