HURRICANE KATRINA: RACE AGAINST TIME immerses viewers in the raw, minute-by-minute chaos that overtook New Orleans, capturing the fear, heroism, and resilience of those fighting to survive the storm’s aftermath. The docuseries offers a fresh perspective, correcting false narratives that have persisted for years and exposing how the disaster escalated into a national tragedy.

Through the voices of survivors, first responders, and officials, the series presents an unflinching look at the personal, political, and societal impacts of the storm. Using immersive archival footage, the series brings the truth to light, offering a gripping historical record.

The docuseries, produced by Oscar®- and Emmy®-winning producers Lightbox, and directed by Oscar-nominated Traci A. Curry, arrives just in time for the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. With input from acclaimed filmmaker Ryan Coogler and his production company Proximity Media, the series features powerful testimony from those who lived through the disaster, offering a necessary correction to long-standing myths about the tragedy.

“This is far more than a story about a storm,” said executive producers Jonathan Chinn and Simon Chinn. “It’s a reexamination of systemic failure and the enduring consequences of decisions made before, during, and after the levees broke.”

“This series goes beyond the headlines,” added executive producers Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, and Sev Ohanian. “It’s a vital historical record, capturing stories of survival, heroism, and resilience, and it’s a call to witness and reckon with Hurricane Katrina’s legacy.”

Director Traci A. Curry (Attica) leads the series, highlighting the lived experiences of the residents, first responders, and officials who endured the storm. The show’s focus on survivors’ voices represents a shift in the storytelling, grounded in accountability and ensuring the lessons of this national tragedy are not forgotten.
