Radio One, Inc. and Toura Form Alliance to Offer Mobile Apps Across Radio One‘s Media Network
Creates Opportunity For Integrated Media Sales Across Mobile, Digital and Broadcast Channels
Toura has recently formed a strategic partnership with Radio One, Inc., the leading urban radio company comprised of fifty-four broadcast stations located in sixteen top urban markets across the United States. Through this alliance, Radio One will be one of the first radio groups in the nation to leverage its position in the market to develop mobile apps efficiently and cost-effectively to benefit local advertisers. By integrating broadcast and digital media buying and mobile app development to enhance the visibility and reach of its clients, Radio One has tapped into a synergetic market that is poised to revolutionize the local media industry and bolster the power of its urban radio stations.
Toura’s mobile app platform is already enabling mobile and tablet apps for publishing giants Dennis Publishing and John Wiley & Sons and leading institutions such as the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Art Institute of Chicago and the British Library. Now, Radio One will be able to offer this advanced technology to its local clients at a fraction of the time and cost of custom development and raise the visibility of its businesses with a blend of radio, web and mobile exposure.
“Radio One is excited to be on the frontier of a new, integrated media approach that blends the power of radio with the convenience and interactivity of mobile apps,””explained Radio One‘s General Manager of Digital, Dan Shelley. “We are confident this new offering will boost our radio station network and meet the evolving needs of our advertisers.”
The first app developed by Radio One through its new partnership with Toura was for CIAA, an athletic conference for historically black colleges and universities. The app, which launched earlier this month, was developed for CIAA’s championship basketball tournament scheduled to take place this February and March. The app will have information about the conference, participating schools, team history, the schedule of events, as well as things to do in Charlotte, the city hosting CIAA.
“As mobile technology grows, established media companies, such as radio station groups, have been searching for ways to strengthen their local offerings to further the power of media buys for their clients,””explained Toura’s CEO Aaron Radin. “Radio One‘s alliance with Toura will allow local businesses to create apps with Radio One, utilizing our technology platform, and, in turn, bolster their reach into an increasingly mobile marketplace.”
