The Georgia Department of Family and Children Services initiated an investigation into the alleged abuse of a one-year-old girl, shortly before the tragic incident occurred. On Thursday night, Sandy Springs police issued an alert regarding a missing one-year-old girl near Concourse Parkway, close to I-285, at approximately 7 p.m.
Tragically, a few hours later, the body of Nirvana Oliver was discovered in a pond, and she was subsequently pronounced deceased. In connection with the incident, the police arrested Asia Calabrese-Lewis, the child’s mother, on charges of felony murder and cruelty to children.
Channel 2 Action News received confirmation from DFCS that they initially contacted Calabrese-Lewis on Wednesday evening after receiving a report concerning suspected abuse or neglect.
“The father of the child arrived and asked where the child was,” Sgt. Matt McGinnis said. “At that time, the mother made the proclamation, ‘At the bottom of the pool.’” she-drowned-pond-near-king-queen-buildings/JEMWPAG2NZGX5B2HLGUTTU2TJI/”>source
