RIP Nate Quick (a tribute)(pics).

(KRNB PD and Radio Legend Nate Quick passed around 10pm last night and was surrounded by friends and family) I knew the time was near for Nate’s family to make the decision and I am not a person who sugar coats a situation so I didn’t do an update yesterday and got many emails asking why. Now you know. I talked to Nate several times in recent months and he never even hinted that anything was wrong. Even when it became obvious that something was wrong with the people that he worked with, he continued to do his airshift and his job because it was what he truly loved doing no matter what. Nate was someone who managed to roll with life’s variable punches with ease and he’s been through a lot. Nate talked about two things in almost every conversation we ever had, his late mother and his younger brother. He truly cherished those two people.

Nate was one of those people who believed in chronicling his industry tenure and I realize now how important these pictures are…   to show one’s children, great grand children etc… and even now to bring a smile to the many industry faces who feel like they have lost a friend. Nate would say to me “Man, I can’t believe you are running those old ass pictures!”  (acting like he was modest but at the same time, he would be glad I did) Nate was one of the few people who often broke the industry rule and he would actually take your call if you were not working (laugh) I am very sad and happy at the same time yet I feel Nate is at peace. It is incredibly evident to me now more than ever that only the good die young. Nate will be greatly missed but I know he is already running around and looking for a new PD gig and a new rap group to promote in the most major market of them all.. Heaven. Rest in Peace Nate..

He made being in the dungeon not so bad. I will miss his laugh and smile but I know that I will see him again. RIP Nate Quick.

  4. I am saddened this morning to hear of Nate’s passing. Nate’s mom Shirley was once married to my dad and I remember Nate from those earlier times in Greenville, SC and Charlotte, NC. Not only was Nate (affectionately called Pookie) a true lover of music but also a constant joker. I lost touch with him when he moved from the Charlotte area but my heart is heavy this morning. “Eazy” thanks for the information you have provided. My prayers are with his family and friends during this time. If there is any way I can get in touch with the family please provide them with either my information or post where condolences can be made. Rest in peace my “brother” remembering the good times.

  11. Words cannot express the pain and shock I am feeling right now. I just found out (while on the air) about the loss of such a great talent, a wonderful friend, an incredible man, Nate Quick. Unbelievable! I am so happy we reconnected on fb just months ago and shared laughs by way of “wall to wall” emails…but now I feel so cheated and upset I didn’t actually hear his voice…I didn’t pick up the phone and call to hear his voice and smile. Nate and I worked together many many years ago here in Atlanta and he was definitely a rare breed, one who the industry didn’t change. He stayed the same Nate throughout, always a smile and always saying something to make you laugh/smile. I will truly miss him–he is definitely gone too soon…RIP my dear friend.

  20. R.I.P Nate. I remember when he worked for Power 98. He slept on the roof on time for a cause. For some reason, I think that it was for a Panthers win. I think that he stayed up there for weeks. While up there he was raising money for a charity. Such a GREAT guy. He is the BEST DJ that Power 98 ever had.

  21. R.I.P. Nate Quick! I am an employee at a school where Mr. Quick came and helped a young man who had dropped out of school get readmitted into school. Within a week he was back with another young man to get him readmitted into school! I was amazed when I found out that he was just simply taking into his own hands the importance of helping those two young males get an education with no strings attached. Most of all, it was something about that smile that seemed so spitritual and genuine! He promised that he would assist them in anyway we needed him to and when we did need him, he was “Johnny on the Spot” so that tells me he lived up to the name of QUICK!!! Just a lil something for the soul and I’m sure Mr. Quick lived by this, “In life be a man/woman of your word.

  22. So many have said what is the only thing that can be said about Nate…He was what we all seek to be. A helper of mankind and a lover of his craft.I teased Nate all the time about only wearing sneakers even with a tux when we were in the QC, yes it would get me that smile. One so big that I’ll remember it for ever.RIP Nate Quizzy

Be easy and tell God I said, “Hey!”

  28. Rest In Peace, Nate. Your personality on-air & off was admirable. To me, you were the epitome of a personality. I’ll always remember, on one of my trips to the Queen City, you took the time to give this, then a novice, a valuable piece of advice, which I carried back to S.C. and used throughout my radio career. Your bright smile, mesmerizing voice and humor will be with me always… as well as you in my heart. May your family find comfort in knowing you were indeed the best. I’ll always miss you, Homeboi. 🙁

  32. It’s been a couple of years since Nate has passed and I am just finding out he is no longer with us. I am saddened by his death and it is brand new to me. My name is Bobby Jackson and I worked with Nate during my days at WCLK- 91.9 FM in Atlanta, GA. He was a natural communicator and a brilliant host doing Hot Ice in the afternoon. I knew Nate was destined for greatness. I’ve thought about Nate over the years but never in my wildest dreams did I think he would leave us so soon. Love you Nate Quick, forever!!! You may have been a great radio personality but you were a much better person. Hate that I won’t ever see you again in this life. That hurts….. RIP friend……….
