Cumulus Media has recently implemented staff reductions at its Indianapolis cluster, resulting in the departure of several prominent radio professionals:
- Kevin Freeman: A 34-year veteran and morning co-host on Country WFMS, Freeman’s departure marks the end of a significant tenure with the station.
- Jimmy Steele: Serving as Program Director for Top 40 WZPL and AC WNTR (107.9 The Mix), Steele’s exit follows his appointment in March 2022. His extensive career includes roles such as Operations Manager at Cumulus Mobile, AL, and various programming positions with iHeartMedia and Saga Communications.
- Laura Steele: Unrelated to Jimmy Steele, Laura was the afternoon host at Classic Hits 104.5 WJJK. Her career spans notable positions, including a 15-year stint at iHeartMedia’s Classic Rock WFBQ (Q95) and contributions to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network.
- Carter Marshall: Former assistant producer of WZPL’s “Smiley Morning Show” and midday host, Marshall began his career at WZPL in 2016 and has since held various roles in the industry.
- Jennifer Trevino: Serving as Promotions Coordinator, Trevino’s departure is part of the broader staff reductions.
Additionally, several members of the sales department have been affected by these layoffs. These changes are part of a broader trend within the radio industry, with companies like iHeartMedia also experiencing significant staff reductions.
