Cold Case Reopened: San Jose Teenager Fatally Stabbed in 2019

In a heartbreaking case that remains unresolved, authorities in San Jose, California, are reexamining the brutal stabbing of 19-year-old Jose Corona Galvan, hoping that a renewed public appeal will generate new leads. The young man was fatally stabbed on October 6th, 2019, while performing a simple errand for his mother, a tragic incident that has haunted his family and the community for six years.

A Tragic and Unsolved Murder

Jose Corona Galvan, a teenager from San Jose, was tragically killed in a violent altercation near the Mexico Bakery on Alum Rock Avenue, where he had gone to purchase bread for his mother. Authorities say that a fight broke out at the scene, and Jose was stabbed in the leg—a wound that ultimately proved fatal. While his death was the result of a seemingly random act, the story of his final moments and the subsequent investigation paints a picture of a young man caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Jose’s family, devastated by his loss, believes that he may have been mistaken for someone else. His brother, in an interview from 2020, shared his belief that Jose’s death could have been the result of a misunderstanding, as he suspected that a prior confrontation earlier that day may have led to the confusion. Tragically, no one was able to identify the attackers at the time, leaving the case to remain unsolved.

Surveillance Video Re-Released in the Hopes of New Leads

In an attempt to revive the investigation, San Jose police have re-released surveillance footage from the night of the attack, hoping that someone might recognize the suspects or come forward with new information. The video shows three young men fleeing the scene immediately after the stabbing, and it also captured the suspects at a McDonald’s on North 27th Street shortly afterward. The footage, which was initially reviewed in the immediate aftermath of the attack, was reissued to the public in the hopes of generating fresh tips or insights from individuals who may have seen something or recognized the perpetrators.

The San Jose police department has not disclosed whether there have been any recent breakthroughs in the case. However, they have made it clear that they remain determined to solve it. Authorities have expressed their commitment to seeking justice for Jose’s family, who have endured years of uncertainty and grief. Margaret Petreaus, a representative from Mothers Against Murder, has been working alongside the family and expressed their hope that justice would soon be served. Petreaus conveyed the family’s enduring pain, emphasizing that their agony over the unsolved murder has only intensified over the years.

The Investigation’s Slow Progress

San Jose police had previously exhausted all leads in the case, but detectives have now returned to the investigation with renewed determination. Police Chief has reassured the public that the department takes great pride in its homicide clearance rate, claiming an impressive 100% clearance rate for homicides over the past four years. However, they admit that no case is ever truly forgotten, and they are revisiting older cases in the hopes of obtaining the closure that the families of victims desperately seek.

Jose’s murder, though not solved, remains one of the cases that the department is committed to solving. Detectives are determined to pursue every possible lead, no matter how small, to bring justice to the young man who was taken from his family far too soon. Authorities have been clear in their messaging: the goal is not only to solve the case but also to bring closure to the grieving family that has been left to navigate the pain of their loss without answers.

A Family in Pain and a Community in Mourning

For Jose’s family, the struggle to cope with his murder has been both personal and heartbreaking. They describe him as the heart of their household, a source of support for his mother and his five siblings. His death has left an irreplaceable void in their lives, one that continues to deepen with the passing of time. The family has expressed that they are exhausted by the lack of closure, and the excruciating pain of not knowing who was responsible for Jose’s death has been difficult to bear.

While the case remains open, the fact that no arrests have been made in the years since Jose’s death has only compounded the grief that the family has had to endure. They are desperate for answers, and they hope that this renewed effort by the San Jose Police Department to bring attention to the case will finally yield the breakthroughs needed to identify those responsible for the crime.

A Call for Justice

Authorities believe that the suspects in the case would have been in their early teens at the time of the attack, making them likely to be young adults now. The investigation continues to rely on the public’s help to move forward, with San Jose police urging anyone who may have witnessed the crime or knows something about the suspects to come forward. For Jose’s family, the desire for justice remains as strong as ever, and they are holding out hope that the fresh look at the surveillance footage will lead to new revelations.

This case, like so many others, stands as a poignant reminder of the devastating impact that violence can have on families and communities. The pain of losing a loved one to an unsolved murder is one that lasts long after the headlines fade, and Jose’s family continues to wait for justice. As the investigation reopens, they hold on to the hope that one day, they will have the answers they need and that the three young men responsible for Jose’s death will finally be held accountable.
