Sybil better be careful before Bishop Noel Jones sicks his sister Grace on her. Initially, I would have probably agreed somewhat with Sybil about the show Preachers of LA being a nightmare for men of God to be a part of, then when I heard the conversation between her and Noel, I began to see and hear, sans the “proclivities” and other five dollar words Noel likes to use , I could see his point and it was actually a good one. Sybil thought that he should be a better representation of God and while he is not God preachers should be Godly.Jones pointed out in response that HE is not to blame because (black) people look at preachers in the (black) community like they are God and I tend to agree, it is THE COMMUNITY who is to blame for holding a man or woman to such an unrealistic high standard. In addition TheIndustry.biz readers, standards are something that WE are responsible for setting for OURSELVES … we don’t have the right to expect others to live up to who we want them to be….THAT’s THE PROBLEM in the black community. Gloraye Hallelue, preach Kevin, oh that’s me!To Sybil’s defense, there are many MANY ministers who ACT like they ARE God which causes people to believe they are and they are not. It’s a matter of self worth and esteem, if you had millions of people treating you like you were God all over the world you might start to believe it too. The show will indeed show that, as Bishop Jones states, preachers and ministers are only humans who make mistakes, have egos, drug problems, cheat and have baby mammy’s just like other people. Now I think I’ll WATCH the show. It’s a great opportunity for the church going public and everyone else to see where their tithes are going and I think it’s about time we see that.
Actually, his segment wasn’t bad. To me he just laid out the truth. The rest of them are something to be reckoned with.
Bishop Jones just said the biggest bunch of crap I’ve heard in some time. The community doesn’t set the guidelines as to how Pastors and leaders of the church should conduct themselves.
The scriptures give the guidelines. I Tim. 3:1 – 5 It is a trustworthy statement: if any man aspires to the office of bishop it is a fine work he desires to do. 2. He must be a man whose life is above reproach. He must be FAITHFUL to his wife. He must exercise self-control, live wisely, and have a good reputation. He must enjoy having guests in his home, and he must be able to teach.
3. not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.
Thank you sis for giving what God requires of us and not what you think I get so sick of people who say they follow God saying “well I feel” when the word is clear as to what God expect from us all. If I were going to base my walk with God outside of His word then I wouod just do what I feel….
i agree with Deborah Simmons God is the one that set standards for his preachers. He didn’t send back the Holy Ghost so we can continue to live in sin. There have always been a different between the saved and unsaved. If those that are saved are going to act like the unsaved what message are we sending out, that God is not able to keep us.. Theres a charge that has been given unto the men and women of God!
The show still sucks.
I just refuse to watch it. The promos basically said it all. I’m with Deborah. I’m a pastor and it floors me when I see pastors living like the rich and famous. You definitely never saw this kind of behavior with the early church. Most folks won’t tithe out of the belief that they are funding the minister’s lifestyle. And from what I can see, the show enforces that stereotype.
Rom 14: 16 ” do not let your good be evil spoken of,” When people take on titles he better be able to live up to it. Other wise step down or consider the responsibility that comes with that title. Like it or not accountability should be expected.
To think of the show as anything but a sad commentary on the body of Christ, is just another leap into the abyss called denial. Not much reason to think this comes down to the usual, cash money & ego. Just a thought.
I can see this kind of drama on regular reality TV. Don’t want to see this foolishnesses with the men of God! Like it or not we’re not supposed to conform to the world. And just because we’re in the world doesn’t mean we should be of the world. EVERY Christian is held to a higher standard because we know better. We’re supposed to make mistakes, repent, and don’t do it again not be so indignant hiding behind the age old ‘all have sinned’ mantra.
Baby mammys? Rude.
