Suzzanne Douglas, the actress most known as playing Robert Townsend’s wife in The Parent’ Hood died July 6. She was 64. Her cousin Angie Tee announced her passing on Twitter. A cause of death was not revealed. The actress was most recently in Ava Duverney’s “When They See Us.”
Douglas got her first big break in 1989’s Tap alongside the late Gregory Hines (see video below of dance scene). She went on to star in many other roles included The Parent’hood with Robert Townsend playing his wife. Townsend took to Twitter to pay tribute saying
“My heart is full, because yesterday I lost, my amazing dancing partner on TV for 5 years Suzzanne Douglas. We did “Work” on THE PARENT’HOOD. I just remember a lot of laughter and a lot of tears… her regal bright light will be missed….”
Douglas was most recently seen in Ava Duverney’s “When The See Us.” Duverney paid tribute by saying “Suzzanne Douglas was a quiet, elegant force as we made WHEN THEY SEE US. A gentlewoman. A gem of a lady. A confident, caring actor who breathed life into the words and made them shimmer. I’m grateful that our paths in this life crossed. May
