Starting Monday, November 24, SportsTalk 790 (KBME) in Houston is launching a new morning show, “The Morning Drive with Dan & Cole,” hosted by locals Dan Mathews and Cole Thompson.

“The Morning Drive” Brings Local Houston Sports to Your Mornings

Broadcasting weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., the show offers a dynamic, fast-paced, and hyper-local take on Houston sports.

The duo, both passionate about their hometown teams, will provide in-depth coverage of the Astros, Rockets, and Texans, as well as tackle major college sports and national sports stories.

“The Morning Drive with Dan & Cole” aims to deliver energetic analysis, insider insights, and lively debates, ensuring each weekday begins with a bang for sports fans in Houston.

Dan Mathews is a seasoned Houston sports broadcaster with deep roots in the city. A St. Thomas High School graduate, Mathews has spent over a decade covering Houston sports and hosted shows in Atlanta before returning to Houston in 2023.

He has worked as a host, reporter, and play-by-play broadcaster and also contributes pre- and post-game coverage for the Houston Astros and Rockets.

Cole Thompson brings a wealth of experience as well, having covered Houston sports for the past decade across Austin and San Antonio.

Known for his high-energy on-air style, Thompson previously hosted “Just Sayin It” for SportsMap Radio and produced “The A-Team” on SportsTalk 790. A University of Alabama grad, Thompson brings a fresh perspective with his instinct-driven commentary.

The show is part of a full day of live, local programming on SportsTalk 790, which also features:

The Matt Thomas Show with Ross (10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.)

The A-Team with Adam Wexler and Adam Clanton (2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.)

The Night Cap with Josh Jordan (6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.)

In addition to these programs, the station is the flagship home for the Houston Astros and Rockets, as well as Texas Longhorn and LSU football, and more.

iHeartMedia Houston, which also owns a range of stations like KPRC 950AM, is known for its strong cross-platform presence, producing marquee events like Buzzfest and The Houston Beat Down. Content from the station is available across multiple digital platforms, including iHeartRadio.
