Sheryl Lee Ralph’s Emmy Song Choice: Rickey Smiley Show (VIDEO)

Rickey Smiley Morning Show said Sheryl Lee Ralph should have chosen a different song during her Emmy Award acceptance speech. Abbott elementary star Sheryl Lee Ralph brought the house down when Tyler Jesse Williams.

She wass overcome with emotion as Dianne Reeves’s “Endangered Species.” It has been 35 years since a Black woman won in the category.

“I am here to tell you that this is what believing looks like. This is what striving looks like. And don’t you ever, ever give up on you. Thank you, thank you,” said Ralph.

Rickey Smiley said the speech was somewhat disappointing because Ralph did not sing, “I sing because I’m happy,” he said.  He wanted her to sing “His Eyes Are on A Sparrow,” which is what Black people should sing when they get an award, Smiley argued. Da Brat said it does not matter what song the talented actress sang;

“I felt it on my TV screen, so I know people in the crowd felt it. They gave her a standing ovation. They were clapping,” said Da Brat.

Da Brat said Ralph was only the second woman to win an award in that category. The first was Jackie Harry for her role in the hit comedy series 227.
