Teens Attacked at Georgia School Bus Stops

Two Georgia teens nearly die at school bus stops in unrelated attacks. Walking to the bus stop is a safe occurrence for most school children. However, for two students, catching the bus proved almost fatal. On Monday, two teenagers were attacked on the way to school in a south Georgia city. One student was stabbed during a fight at the bus stop, while the other was shot while walking to the bus, police said. Both teens are in stable condition.

The assaults took place about ten minutes apart, said Valdosta Chief Leslie Manahan. The incidents were not related.

The Valdosta Daily Times reported that at about 7:17 a.m., someone called the police to report children fighting at a bus stop. After arriving on the scene, officers found the first victim. Police said in a statement that a 12-year-old boy had been stabbed in the stomach with a knife. The child was taken to an area hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and released.

Officers were called to a second scene, At 7:26 a.m. This time a school bus was heading to a local hospital to drop off a 17-year-old that had been shot. While walking to the bus, police said, the 17-year-old was shot in the torso. According to a police statement, the teen was hospitalized and in stable condition.

Police said officers arrested a 15-year-old male suspect on aggravated assault charges related to the stabbing. According to police, the shooting victim was uncooperative with authorities.
