UCLARADIO.COM FIGHTING BUDGET CRISIS WITH PLEDGE DRIVE

A week of fundraising to receive donations for new equipment and technology May 13, 2010 ““ Los Angeles, CA ““ In light of California’s recent budget crisis, all student groups at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) have felt the burden of a tightened budget, lacking sufficient funds for necessities like supplies and equipment. UCLARadio.com, the college’s first and only student-run radio station, has been no exception, having difficulty paying for the new equipment required to deliver quality sound and music. The station has been streaming online for over ten years due to its inability to afford an airwave.

UCLARadio.com has decided to take action by hosting its 3rd Annual Pledge Drive during the week of May 24th to supplement the lack of funding. The passionate staff has reached out to local companies and venues to obtain sponsorships from Goldenvoice, Insomniac Events, the House of Blues and the Key Club. Students and Los Angeles residents are encouraged to listen to the station online, at UCLARadio.com, and visit the table at UCLA’s Bruin Walk to make donations and participate in raffles to win concert tickets. Listeners, patrons, and donators will have the chance to win tickets to events like the Electric Daisy Carnival and concerts by acts like MURS, Warren G, Mike Posner and Minus the Bear. The station will also be holding a used media sale, selling CDs, DVDs and books to help the cause. For over 40 years, UCLA Radio has been an avid supporter of all genres of music and all artists, especially those in the Los Angeles music scene. Broadcasting through the internet, the station draws in listeners from all over the country and accepts submissions from all interested independent and unsigned musicians.

The DJs are known for their passion for music and presence throughout all shows and events in Los Angeles. Adequate funding is needed to foster the growth of these DJs, who often go on to work in notable stations like KCRW, KROQ, and Fox Sports Radio. In order to continue its role in propelling the success of up and coming musicians, UCLA Radio needs donations to keep the station running. New equipment and technology is necessary in order to keep the station a viable competitor in the market of Los Angeles radio stations. Also, money is needed to fund the education of its DJs to develop the proper skills needed to host shows, market the station, and create strategies that will bring UCLA Radio to a new level of success. All are encouraged to stop by UCLARadio.com’s table on Bruin Walk between May 24th and May 28th or go to UCLA Radio’s PayPal account to make a donation. Any donation would be greatly appreciated and would go directly to the station’s supplies and equipment fund.
