WALR’s Terri Avery Retiring

Terri Avery, the current Director of Branding and Programming at Cox Media Group’s WALR (Kiss 104.1) in Atlanta, has announced her retirement, which will be effective on December 31, 2023. Since joining the team in January 2019, Avery has significantly contributed to the station’s success.

She spearheaded initiatives like the Black Radio United for the Vote and revitalized the station with new musical directions and talent. Her tenure saw the station win multiple awards, including two Marconi Awards (2022 Urban Station of the Year and 2023 Major Market Station of the Year), several Gabby Awards, and a nomination for the 2021 Service to America Award.

Jaleigh Long, VP/Market Manager of CMG Atlanta Radio, praised Avery’s 38-year career in radio, highlighting her valuable contributions to the WALR team and the legacy she leaves. Emily Boldon, Director of Operations for CMG Atlanta Radio, also commended Avery for her intelligence, compassionate leadership, and the positive impact she made at Kiss 104.1.
