What Happened to Colonel Abrams? His life and his Death

Born in Detroit, Colonel Abrams was a singer who achieved fame with the song “Trapped” (1983). He studied music at Wayne State University and later graduated from New York University.

After he finished college, Colonel Abrams chose to focus on his singing career instead of going into medicine as he had planned earlier.

Colonel Abrams was a singer and songwriter that had an amazing impact on the black music scene in the 80s. One of his most well-known singles was, “Trapped” which he released in 1983.

He began singing when he was a teenager and had his own band called the Disciples. He was also once in a band with Prince.

“Piece of my Love,” Colonel Abrams’ first single, was released in 1983 and featured a vocal sample from D. Train’s “Shining Star.” His 1985 tune “Trapped (Remix)” set the pattern for house music that would dominate dance floors around the world until 1991 with its hypnotic synthesizer riffs and drum

The song “Trapped” is a track off of Colonel Abrams’ self-titled album. The song hit number one on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart in 1983 and sold over three million copies worldwide, making it his most successful single to date. He went on to release several more albums throughout the 80’s with some success.

In 1985 Colonel Abrams released another successful single “I’m Not Gonna Let”, which reached number one on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart and also made it to #7 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Singles.

In the 1980s, Colonel Abrams made a name for himself as one of house music’s founding fathers. His signature sound was created through a Roland TR-909 drum machine and an Oberheim OB-x synthesizer. The combination gave his songs with strong percussion and warm synth pads that can still be heard in many current productions today

Colonel Abrams go fund me campaign

In December 2018, Colonel Abrams launched a go fund me campaign in order to raise money for an album but that quickly turned to the need to support his health concerns. The goal was $500,000. He had previously been homeless for several years before the release of “It’s Time For Change.”

Colonel Abrams was allegedly homeless for several years before his death and he had a hard time getting his diabetes medication which ruined his health.

How did Colonel Abrams Die

Colonel Abrams died of a heart attack on Thanksgiving Day November 24th, 2018. He was 67 years old.
