A mother in Washington state has confessed to killing her adult son and disposing of his body. Christine D. Catelli, 58, was arrested and charged with the second-degree murder of her 35-year-old son.
The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office received a suspicious call report on Saturday, where the caller said his sister had confessed to shooting her son in June 2022. The alleged victim had not been seen since then, and the caller believed his sister was telling the truth.
Deputies responded to the call, and the caller drove his sister from his home on the west side of Washington to Spokane on the east side to report the crime. He later helped deputies recover the victim’s remains that had been dumped in Whitman County, south of Spokane.
The caller also told deputies that his sister had been under a lot of stress and struggled with a substance abuse addiction, but he thought she had been doing well and making progress. However, when law enforcement met with the caller and Catelli, she confirmed the information and admitted to the crime.
Catelli told deputies that she shot her son several times in June and then led investigators to his remains. They found a large plastic bag containing human remains in the exact area Catelli had said they would be.
The investigation remains active, and the sheriff’s office stated that they would release the victim’s name and the official cause of death later. Catelli remains behind bars.
