San Antonio officers sped to a home in an apartment block off Babcock Road following reports of a burglary in progress at 5 a.m. on Sunday, according to CBS affiliate KENS 5.
Identified as Jane Doe in the police report, the woman told a responding officer that she woke up to find a man lying next to her and smiling.
There were 7553 burglaries in the city last year, according to San Antonio Government figures.
The woman claimed she began to scream and alerted her roommate by banging on the wall.
According to KENS 5, the man tried to cover the woman’s mouth and grabbed her arms. During the struggle, the woman was able to hold off the intruder.
After the roommate entered the room, the man fled through the window and managed to escape, she added.
Fingerprints were found on the window, officers stated in the report. They added that items might have been moved so that he could gain entry to the apartment.
The network said, while the window was locked it was easy to open when pushed, the same report found.
Police asked any residents with information on the case to come forward. There were no similar incidents in the area that police were aware of.
