BLACK BEAR Signs Kerry Howley Before Sundance Debut

Black Bear announced today that their management arm has signed screenwriter, author and essayist Kerry Howley for representation. Howley wrote the script for the Sundance-bound film Winner, a comedic coming-of-age story Howley adapted from her own New York Magazine profile on Reality Winner. The film, which is directed by Susanna Fogel, stars Emilia Jones, Connie Britton, and Zach Galifianakis and will debut in the Premieres section.

Howley is a prolific writer, having authored the Knopf-published non-fiction book Bottom’s Up and The Devil Laughs, which was recently picked as a New York Times 2023 Top Ten Book of the Year and a Vanity Fair Best Book of the Year. She is currently a staff writer at New York Magazine, most recently contributing the cover piece “Erewhon’s Secrets” on the strange history and rise of the Los Angeles health food mecca Erewhon. Before joining the staff of New York Magazine, Howley was a professor at the University of Iowa’s celebrated Nonfiction MFA program.
