Suspects Identified and Charges
Eighteen-year-old Arental Watson and 21-year-old Kantrick Ray have been arrested and are being held on $1 million bonds. They are facing charges of attempted murder following a shooting incident on Interstate 240 that left a father and his four children critically injured.
Court Appearances
Both suspects appeared before a judge on Thursday morning. Watson’s appearance was rescheduled as he did not have an attorney present. Ray is being represented by attorney Brandon Hall, who emphasized Ray’s right to a defense.
Incident Details
The incident occurred when the father was attempting to merge onto I-240 from Mount Moriah Road but was unable to because Ray’s SUV blocked him. After eventually merging, the SUV allegedly began driving erratically. The father rolled down his window to question the occupants’ behavior, and the SUV then moved to the passenger side of his car, where someone opened fire.
Arrest and Evidence
Following a police chase, both suspects were arrested. Hall noted that the affidavit does not specify who fired the shots.
Ray’s Legal History
Ray was previously out on bond for possessing a stolen handgun and was due in court next month to plead guilty to those charges. The District Attorney’s office plans to revoke his bond.
Next Court Date
Ray is scheduled to return to court for the I-240 shooting case on June 27th.
