University of Chicago Security Alert
A security alert was issued by the University of Chicago after three men were shot on a sidewalk in front of the adult hospital’s emergency room around 5 a.m. The gunshots were fired from a dark-colored SUV that fled southbound on Cottage Grove. It is unclear if any victims are affiliated with the university.
South Loop Shooting Incident
In another incident, a 26-year-old man was shot and killed while walking on East 21st Street near Michigan Avenue around 11 p.m. A 25-year-old woman was also injured but is expected to recover. The man was confirmed to be a CTA bus driver.
Witness Account
A witness reported hearing at least 15 gunshots near a dog park across from the Marriott on East 21st Street. Bullet casings were scattered along the street, and the front door of a condo building was shattered.
Mass Shootings and CPD Response
Over the holiday weekend, there were three mass shootings in Chicago, resulting in 16 injuries and four deaths. All CPD officers had their days off canceled to manage the police response. The emergency assistance center will open on Tuesday to support affected individuals.
