A Chick-fil-A employee was attacked by a man with a large stick while trying to stop a carjacking. The Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Wednesday that, while retrieving her baby from her vehicle outside the restaurant in Fort Walton Beach, a woman was approached by an assailant who wielded a stick and demanded she turn over her car keys.

The release said, after the man managed to grab the woman’s keys from her waistband, he opened her door and forced his way into her vehicle. An employee of Chick-fil-A rushed over to assist after he heard the woman’s cries for help. The attacker, and Mykel Gordon, the employee, engaged in a physical altercation. Gordon was punched in the face during the fight, said the release.

A video shared on Twitter by the sheriff’s office shows that others came over to help apprehend the suspect during the scuffle. The sheriff’s office called the employee a Good Samaritan for his assistance with detaining the suspect.

“A major shout-out to this young man for his courage,” the department said in the post.

The operator of the Chick-fil-A branch, Matthew Sexton, told CNN he was glad no one was hurt.

“I’m grateful for my amazing Team Member, Mykel Gordon, who so selflessly jumped in to intervene and help our Guests. I couldn’t be prouder of his incredible act of care,” Sexton said.

The sheriff’s office said the 43-year-old male suspect was arrested and charged with carjacking with a weapon and battery.
