Court Sets $85K Bail for Woman in Deadly Alley Beating Case (Video)

Court Appearance for Woman Accused of Homicide

A 24-year-old woman named Demarius Wade appeared in court for the first time in connection with the death of a 44-year-old man in Milwaukee. Wade is facing charges of second-degree reckless homicide, following an incident that took place in the early hours of July 19th on the city’s south side. Prosecutors allege that Wade struck the victim 22 times in the head, resulting in his death at the scene.

The Incident Leading to the Fatal Beating

According to investigators, the altercation began when Wade witnessed a separate violent dispute between a man and his on-and-off girlfriend in an alley near Eighth and Orchard streets. The woman involved in the initial argument told police that the man had pushed her down, hit her, and dragged her while she screamed for him to stop. Wade reportedly intervened, telling the woman that she was protecting her.

The situation quickly escalated, leading to a physical confrontation between Wade and the man. Surveillance footage recovered by investigators allegedly shows Wade striking the victim repeatedly in the head. The medical examiner later determined that the cause of death was blunt force trauma, confirming the fatal nature of the attack.

Previous Criminal Record

While this incident marks the first time Wade has been accused of killing someone, it is not her first encounter with the legal system. Court officials revealed that Wade has a history of criminal activity dating back several years.

In 2015, she was charged with first-degree sexual assault involving a child under the age of 13. The following year, in 2016, she was involved in two separate incidents, one for burglary and another for criminal damage to property. These previous offenses were taken into consideration during her court appearance on Saturday.

Bail and Court Proceedings

During the court hearing, the commissioner set Wade’s bail at $85,000, citing the severity of the crime, her criminal record, and the need to protect the public as factors in the decision. The prosecution argued that a high cash bail was appropriate given the violent nature of the alleged crime and Wade’s previous encounters with the law. The commissioner agreed, acknowledging the gravity of the charges and the potential threat Wade might pose to the community.

Wade is scheduled to return to court on August 23rd, where the case will continue to be heard. The upcoming court date will likely involve further examination of the evidence and possibly a determination of whether the case will proceed to trial. Given the seriousness of the charges, the case has drawn significant attention, and it is expected that further details will emerge as the legal process unfolds.

The prosecution’s case against Wade rests heavily on the video evidence showing the brutal nature of the attack, as well as the statements from the woman Wade was allegedly defending. The defense, on the other hand, may seek to argue that Wade’s actions were justified as a means of protecting someone else from harm. However, the sheer violence of the attack, as described by prosecutors, presents a formidable challenge for the defense.

As the case moves forward, it will be closely watched by both legal experts and the general public, particularly given the broader implications it may have regarding self-defense and intervention in domestic disputes. The outcome of the case could set a precedent for how similar cases are handled in the future, particularly those involving individuals with prior criminal records. Wade’s next court appearance will likely provide further insights into the direction of the case and the strategies both the prosecution and defense intend to pursue.

In the meantime, the community remains shocked by the violence of the incident, and the case has sparked discussions about the complex nature of self-defense, especially when it results in the loss of life. As the legal process continues, all eyes will be on the courtroom to see how justice is ultimately served in this tragic case.
