Chicago – A father of 3 Kenwood star athletes gunned down in South Side in a horrifying tragedy that has turned a fairy tale into a tragedy. Kevin Thunderbird, an esteemed graduate and renowned baseball player from Simeon Academy’s class of 2005, was ruthlessly shot on Monday night in Hyde Park by an assailant in a passing vehicle, as confirmed by the police.

This heart-wrenching incident occurred merely days after Thunderbird had witnessed his three sons, all accomplished athletes at Kenwood Academy, triumph in the city baseball championship and proudly graduate from high school.

“Simeon was his heart,” said his mother, Diane Thunderbird.  “It was his heart. I can just see him now. It’s like I have an angel in the outfield now.”

Thursday night at the Simeon Academy baseball field, a touching tribute took place as hundreds of mourners gathered to honor the memory of Kevin Thunderbird, the 36-year-old beloved star center fielder. Balloons were released into the sky, symbolizing the collective grief and remembrance of those in attendance. The somber event served as a poignant reminder of Thunderbird’s remarkable contributions to the sport and the profound impact he had on his community.

“All the coaches just loved him,” said his mother. “I hope that they catch [his killer.] I pray that they catch him because it would take a complete devil to do something like this to a man like that.”

Thunderbird’s remarkable athletic prowess was undoubtedly inherited by his three sons, who followed in their father’s footsteps as star players on the Kenwood Academy baseball team. Their exceptional skills and dedication led them to a glorious victory, clinching the Public League title.

“The last two weeks we made him so proud,” said his oldest son, Kevin, Jr. “His three baby boys won the city championship, graduated high school, all went to prom together.”

“Dad, your memory will always live on,” said his other son, K’vion. “We’re going to do big things for you. Our last name, forever, will be something great.”

With their remarkable talents, Thunderbird’s two eldest sons have secured scholarships that will pave the way for their future endeavors. Kevin Jr., a gifted baseball player, has earned a scholarship to Russ College in Mississippi, where he will continue to pursue his passion for the sport. Meanwhile, K’vion has received a football scholarship to Arizona State, where he will have the opportunity to showcase his skills on the gridiron.

“He finally got to see them win the championship,” said his mother, Diane. “He got to see them walk across the stage, it was like a fairy tale the last few weeks and for it to turn into such a nightmare here, is overwhelming.”

Regrettably, Thunderbird’s youngest son was unable to attend the vigil held on Thursday due to his participation in a scouting tournament in Florida, where he is showcasing his baseball skills. While the rest of the family gathered to mourn and pay their respects, he remained committed to his athletic aspirations, driven by his father’s unwavering support.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with Thunderbird’s tragic death. Source.
