The family of the deceased has expressed their distress, particularly because Newsome, a long-time police officer, allegedly left the scene of the accident. This act has been particularly disturbing for them, considering Newsome’s duty to serve and protect the public. A magistrate judge has denied bail for Newsome. The former officer has hired well-known defense attorney Bruce Harvey to represent him. Mead’s family, currently residing in Atlanta, plans to bury him in his homeland of the Virgin Islands. His father, too devastated to speak, could only cry during a phone conversation about the tragedy. The loss has taken a significant toll on the entire family.Legal Proceedings
