Gwinnett County police are working tirelessly to uncover the reasons behind the tragic death of 16-year-old Mia Composes, who was found dead in the woods early Monday morning. The heartbreaking discovery was made by Mia’s parents just after 1:30 a.m., approximately 20 yards from the roadway and less than a mile from their home.
Mia left her home at 10:30 p.m. on Sunday night, reportedly with her unborn baby’s father, Jesus Monroy, to go to a Quick Trip. When she did not return and could not be reached, her worried family tracked her phone to the wooded area where they found her body.
The Gwinnett County medical examiner has ruled Mia’s death a homicide. Police have since arrested Monroy for lying to a police officer, though he has not been named a suspect in the case. Authorities are withholding certain details of the investigation to avoid compromising their efforts.
Mia’s parents are devastated by the loss of their daughter and her unborn child. “They took everything from her. They took everything from me. To see your daughter lay down is hard. There’s no words for that,” said Mia’s father.
The Gwinnett County Police Department is urging anyone with additional information to come forward to assist in their investigation. They are committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring justice is served.
