AUSTIN — Huston-Tillotson University grows its departmental leadership with the addition of Ms. Jennifer Miles. Miles joins the Huston-Tillotson family as its director of the Center for Academic Innovation and Transformation (CAIT), designated to service the professional development needs of faculty and staff.

CAIT’s Director Miles was named August 15, 2018.  The purpose of the CAIT is to offer a robust schedule of mission and strategic objective-related opportunities for faculty and staff to develop skills and knowledge in innovative and transformative pedagogical best practices and assessment methodology.  Learning Communities will be used as faculty explore utilization of their skills and assessment of the impact on their students’ learning.  As well, the Center looks to help increase faculty participation and learning through innovation and transformative learning and assessment tools, with demonstrated use in classes and programs.

Mills brings 13 years of experience to Huston-Tillotson from across various spectrums of higher education.  Most recently, she served as the director of online programs at Kentucky State University.  In addition, she was the project director for the budding Competency- Based Education (CBE) program, while also the administrator of many campus technologies, such as the Blackboard Learning Management System. Ms. Miles’ professional responsibilities include but not limited to data collection, trend analysis, online degree program and certificate curriculum development, state compliance, and the quality of online instruction.

Miles earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems and Business Administration and MS in Communication from Murray State University. She currently is a doctoral candidate at Eastern Kentucky University.

Miles’ faculty scholarship lends instruction to communication, education and journalism courses.  Her philanthropic efforts include serving as a board member with the Frankfort Arts Foundation and the Competency-Based Education Network Advisory team.  Miles’ certification as an instructional designer through Indiana University assisted the State of Kentucky with online technology through avidly working with the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education as the 2015-2017 State Authorization Workgroup chair, Distance Learning Steering Team (DLST), and the Authorization and Privacy committees.
