An Atlanta police officer, Anthony L. Anderson, has been apprehended on multiple charges, including cruelty to children and violating his oath of office.

Allegations suggest that Anderson, while responding to a car accident on Martin Luther King Drive at around 3:50 a.m. on August 2, assaulted the 16-year-old survivor and stopped medical staff present on-site from assessing her injuries.

The survivor, whose identity remains confidential, reported the incident to Gwinnett Police. Consequently, they initiated an investigation and interviewed Anderson on August 11.

The Atlanta police department was informed the same day and immediately reassigned Anderson from his field duties, subsequently launching their own inquiry into the matter.

APD Chief Darin Schierbaum commented on the situation: “The allegations deeply concern and infuriate me. Public trust is paramount, and any act that undermines this trust is unacceptable. I assure the public that we will thoroughly investigate any reported misconduct. I commend the swift response of our criminal investigation division in addressing this situation.”

The investigation is currently in progress. Records indicate that Anderson joined the APD in 2015.
