Kelly Rowland responded to a mother who blasted Sesame Place for the racist treatment of her black daughters. The mother shared her two daughters’ rejection from a park employee dressed as Rosita from the long-running kids’ show, “Sesame Street.” The girl’s mother posted the diss on her Instagram on July 17. The video shows Rosita high-fiving a white person and then rejecting the two little black girls. The young girls were left disappointed and confused by the rude behavior.
“I’m going to keep posting this because this had me hot. We were on our way out of sesame place, and the kids wanted to stop to see the characters. THIS DISGUSTING person blatantly told our kids NO then proceeded to hug the little white girl next to us!”
When the mother confronted the manager about her concerns, she was told the person in the costume could not be identified. Outraged parents on social media called out the disrespectful snub. On Instagram, R&B superstar Kelly Rowland chimed in with her opinion on seemingly racist conduct, saying, “Had that been me, that whole parade would have been in flames.”
The employee’s “no” reaction was not a rejection of the little girl’s gesture to gain the character’s attention. Instead, it was a response to someone in the crowd trying to get the character to hold their child for a photo, which is prohibited, said Sesame Place in response to the July 17th incident. Some found that explanation hard to accept.
The family was invited back for a special meet-and-greet with the characters, and Sesame Place issued an apology. Some have rejected the Philadelphia theme park’s explanation, “This response is unreal. You all need to regroup and try again. We will not accept this,” activist Tamika Mallory wrote.
