Ludacris, the acclaimed rapper and actor, is diving into a new realm with a BET+ series inspired by his experiences as the up-and-coming DJ Chris Lova Lova. This currently untitled dramedy is being developed by Black Entertainment Television's streaming service, drawing from Ludacris' competitive beginnings in the Atlanta music scene.
The series promises to capture the dynamic and often challenging world of a hip-hop radio station, focusing on the lengths its characters go to boost their ratings. It's penned by Noah Gardenswartz, known for his work on “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” and he will also serve as an executive producer.
Chris “Ludacris” Bridges not only brings his life story to the series but also contributes as the music supervisor and executive producer. The project is a collaboration with his own label, Disturbing Tha Peace, co-founded with manager Chaka Zulu, who is also on board as an executive producer.
Joining Ludacris in the production team are industry heavyweights like Larry Wilmore, former correspondent for “The Daily Show” and host of “The Nightly Show,” and Malcolm D. Lee of Blackmaled Productions. Lee, who has previously directed hits like “Girls Trip” and “Night School,” is fresh off his work on “The Best Man: The Final Chapters” for Peacock, a Universal TV-backed series.
This new venture marks a reunion for Ludacris with Universal Television, following his role in the studio's film division franchise, “Fast and the Furious.” Other executive producers include Dominique Telson from Blackmaled Productions, Jeff Dixon from Disturbing Tha Peace, Josh Bratman, and David Blackman from Polygram Entertainment.
