Abrupt Closure and Client Reactions

The venue’s closure has been abrupt and without warning. One of the clients, Tricia Kean, who had booked the venue to honor her late son, paid $2,500 in advance, only to find out that the venue had shut down unexpectedly. Her story aired on local news, prompting other clients to come forward with similar grievances. Many of these clients are now left scrambling to find alternative venues while attempting to recover their lost funds.

One such client, Glenda Johnson from New Jersey, had chosen Life Legacy Venue for her wedding. After planning the event for over a year and a half, Johnson sent a friend to do a walk-through of the space, only to discover that the venue had been locked and deserted. Johnson had already paid $5,000 through a combination of debit card transactions and Zelle transfers. Now, with her wedding just a month away, Johnson is left in a precarious situation, trying to recover her money and find a new venue.

Investigation into the Venue Owner

Following the reports from these clients, a deeper investigation into the venue’s owner, Devin Brooks, uncovered troubling information. Brooks, who was evicted from the property on August 12th, has a criminal history that raises serious concerns. In September 2022, the Nevada Attorney General announced that Brooks was sentenced for Medicaid fraud. He was convicted of failing to maintain proper records, for which he received a suspended sentence of 364 days in the Clark County Detention Center. Brooks was also placed on probation and ordered to pay $100,000 in restitution, none of which was known to his clients at Life Legacy Venue.

Brooks’ history of fraudulent activity, combined with the abrupt closure of the venue, has left many clients feeling betrayed and in a state of financial turmoil. Some clients have questioned whether others associated with Brooks might be involved in the fraudulent activities, but one such individual, known only as “Jerry,” who claimed to be Brooks’ uncle, denied any involvement. Jerry stated that he had no connection to the venue’s closure or the missing funds.

The North Las Vegas Police Department has stated that they cannot intervene in this matter as it is considered a civil issue rather than a criminal one. This has left clients with little recourse other than to file formal complaints with the Attorney General’s office. The Attorney General’s office has encouraged all affected clients to file these complaints, which could potentially lead to further legal action against Brooks.

For many of the affected clients, the loss is not just financial but emotional as well. Events like weddings and memorials are significant life moments, and the disruption caused by the venue’s closure has been devastating. Clients like Glenda Johnson, who had dreams of a perfect wedding, are now facing the reality that their plans have been derailed, and the financial losses may never be fully recovered.

The situation with Life Legacy Venue highlights the risks involved when businesses operate without transparency and accountability. For Devin Brooks, the financial and legal repercussions of his actions are still unfolding. The evictions, combined with his criminal past, have left a trail of financial ruin for his clients. As more people come forward with their stories, the extent of the financial damage caused by Brooks is becoming increasingly clear.

For now, the focus remains on helping the affected clients recover their funds and find alternative venues for their events. However, the emotional and financial toll of this situation will likely be felt for a long time. The case also serves as a reminder to clients to thoroughly research the businesses they engage with, especially when making significant financial commitments.
