The Gibson Garage London is the ultimate guitar and music experience and features uniquely British cultural discoveries around every corner and level. Music fans will experience weekly live performances, artist showcases and signings, and panel discussions from musicians and artists, all from its state-of-the-art stage located on the lower level of the Garage. The Gibson Gallery, a bi-annual revolving gallery wall, displays the photography and art of British artists and musicians.
The inaugural exhibition at the Gibson Gallery features an exclusive collection from legendary music photographer Gered Mankowitz. For the past 50 years, Mankowitz’s portraits have helped to shape the iconic images of music’s key players.
The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, PP Arnold, Kate Bush, Elton John, The Jam, Eurythmics, Oasis, and many more have all looked down the lens of Mankowitz’s camera. This Gibson Gallery exhibit will also feature rare and unseen portraits from Mankowitz’s unrivaled archive, which is curated by RedHouse Gallery in association with Iconic Images.
The Darkness was formed in the early noughties by Justin Hawkins, his brother Dan Hawkins, Frankie Poullain (bass), and Ed Graham (drums). The band catapulted to success in 2003, winning Ivor Novello Awards, Brits (x3), MTV Europe Music Awards, a VH1 Award, you name it, and they won it, for the incredible debut album Permission to Land, and the hit singles including “I Believe in a Thing Called Love,” “Growing On Me,” and “Christmas Time (Don’t Let The Bells End).”
Since then, drummers have come and gone–Rufus Taylor now owns The Darkness drum stool as a long-term member–but the guitar-wielding brothers and bassist Frankie Poullain have gone on to release seven more Top 10 albums and tour the world year after year.
