The Steve Harvey Morning Show discussed R Kelly’s sentencing. R&B superstar R Kelly has been sentenced to 30 years in prison following his racketeering conviction last year for using enablers to sexually abused minors for decades, said Shirley Strawberry. US District Court Judge Ann Donnelly spent several minutes detailing instances of abuse and violence while looking directly at R Kelly.

The judge said these crimes were calculated, carefully planned, and regularly executed for almost 25 years. She said that R Kelly taught them that love is enslavement and violence.

Although R Kelly did not speak out, one of his victims did. She went by the name of Jane Doe number two. She told R Kelly, “You degraded me, you humiliated me, and broke my spirit. I wished I would die because of how you degraded me,” said Strawberry.

Steve Harvey reigned in on the case. He said the situation had been going on for a long time, and R Kelly had been acquitted before and had the opportunity to walk away and get himself together. There was too much evidence and proof of this continued behavior.

“You can’t get mad at the system now when the system turns around and bites you because look, man, there were plenty of opportunities to do the right thing. And when you talk about doing people this way,” said Harvey.

Harvey said the saddest part about the situation is when people chime in and say the victims were grown and they could have made different choices. Harvey said those criticisms were not given to victims of other races. He says women of color need to be shown those same courtesies.

Harvey said this is an ugly day on so many levels because he hates seeing a person’s demise, but when they do it to themselves, no one else can be faulted.
