Jeffrey Wright on ‘American Fiction’ Oscar Nom; we ‘did it with a lot of passion’
Thursday on “The Talk” Oscar nominee Jeffrey Wright discusses “American Fiction” and identifying with his character ‘Monk.’ “It was maybe too easy, in some ways…he wants to be seen for his authentic self. He wants to be creatively free. He wants to be intellectually free. He wants to be seen for who he is.
The thing about this aspect of the film, it doesn’t just apply to Black men, I think we all want to be seen for who we are.” Wright shares his feelings about the film’s recent Academy Award nomination for Best Picture, “Oh, so good. Thank you. What I love about that is that represents the work of everyone that was involved in the film.
Not simply in front, but behind as well. We all, cast and crew, came together to work on this because we loved the script. It’s based on a novel called Erasure by Percival Everett, and some of the crew would have copies of the book because they wanted to understand more about this story. We really did it with a lot of passion…it’s really exciting, I’m excited for everyone involved.”
