TV One, Urban One Awarded Atlanta’s Highest Honor

A Week of Celebration for Urban One and TV One.

The 6th Annual Urban One Honors, a prestigious event themed “Best In Black,” was recorded on January 20th.

This event is a grand celebration of Black Excellence, recognizing individuals for their outstanding contributions in various fields, including the arts, media, music, and community engagement.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of several notable talents, such as CeeLo Green and Nicci Gilbert, both performing at the event, along with Reginae Carter and Yandy Smith-Harris hosting the Red Carpet. Chef Jernard Wells, known as “The Chef of Love” and host of CLEO-TV’s #newsoulkitchen and New Soul Kitchen Remix, was also in attendance.

The kickoff for the Urban One Honors was marked by a significant moment when Atlanta City Council President Doug Shipman presented a proclamation to Alfred C. Liggins III on behalf of the City of Atlanta. This proclamation was in recognition of the 20th Anniversary of TV One and the impactful role of Urban One in fostering deeper community connections and understanding.

Further emphasizing the significance of TV One and Urban One in the community, the City of Atlanta bestowed another honor with Mayor Andre Dickens presenting The Phoenix Award, the highest accolade of the city, at the conclusion of the Red Carpet event.

In celebration of TV One’s 20th Anniversary, the network announced a year-long series of special programming. This includes curated retrospectives, exclusive behind-the-scenes content, and a series of commemorative events. These initiatives are designed to engage viewers with insightful interviews and showcase iconic moments from TV One’s two-decade journey, underlining the network’s dedication to delivering high-quality content and maintaining a deep connection with its audience.

The 6th Annual Urban One Honors recognized several individuals for their extraordinary achievements. Mary J. Blige was awarded as the “Entertainment Icon Honoree.” The event also honored Dionne Warwick with the Lifetime Achievement award, Chlöe as the Generation Next Honoree, Frankie Beverly as a Living Legend, and Donald Lawrence for his Inspirational Impact. The event featured a diverse array of performers and presenters, including Teyana Taylor, Bebe Winans, Damon Little, Angie Stone, and October London, with a special reunion of R&B Divas members KeKe Wyatt, Chanté Moore, and Nicci Gilbert. LeToya Luckett hosted the “Backstage Pass,” providing exclusive interviews with honorees, performers, and presenters.

TV One Networks, since its inception in January 2004, and its sister network CLEO TV, launched in January 2019, are integral parts of Urban One, Inc. They cater to African-American and urban audiences, offering a mix of original programming, classic series, and movies.
